MAHB registers 2.6mil passengers at its airport network in October

KUALA LUMPUR: Passenger movements throughout Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) network of airports dropped 78.1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 2.6 million in October.

The airport operator said domestic and international passenger movements during the month stood at 2.0 million and 600,000 passengers respectively, down 67.4 per cent and 89.7 per cent.

“Malaysia’s traffic performance in October was largely affected by the resurgence of Covid-19 cases, resulting in the re-imposition of Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) to control the contagion.

“Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) continues to maintain essential connectivity to the world in this challenging operating environment, with 35 airlines currently operating to 31 destinations in 23 countries,” MAHB said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

On a last-12-month basis, the total MAHB network of airports declined 54.7 per cent with 63.2 million passengers.

MAHB said the overall aircraft movements had declined 67.9 per cent over October 2019.

International and domestic aircraft movements contracted by 80.4 per cent and 59.6 per cent respectively.

MAHB’s local airports network registered 700,000 passenger movements in October, down 92.1 per cent YoY.

Domestic and international sectors recorded 600,000 and 89,000 passengers for a decline of 86.2 per cent and 97.9 per cent respectively.

Overall aircraft movements decreased 77.3 per cent.

Domestic and international aircraft movements declined 70.5 per cent and 88.1 per cent respectively over October 2019.

MAHB said KLIA passenger movements had plunged 95.8 per cent YoY in October with 212,000 passengers.

Domestic and international passenger movements registered a decline of 91.1 per cent and 97.6 per cent respectively.

Passenger movements for the main terminal of KLIA and klia2 went down 96.2 per cent and 95.5 per cent respectively.

The last-12-month passenger movements for KLIA main terminal recorded 11.2 million passengers and klia2 posted 12.6 million passengers, a decline of 61.2 per cent and 61.8 per cent respectively.

Overall aircraft movements at KLIA shrank 86.5 per cent over October 2019.

Domestic and international aircraft movements at KLIA declined by 82.8 per cent and 88.2 per cent respectively.

MAHB’s Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG) passenger movements dropped 39.8 per cent in October with 1.9 million passengers.

Domestic and international passengers decreased by 23.6 per cent and 62.5 per cent with 1.4 million and 492,000 passenger movements respectively.

Total aircraft movements decreased 32.1 per cent, with domestic and international aircraft movements being down 13.6 per cent and 55.0 per cent respectively over October 2019.
