Angsana Johor mall ordered shut over Covid-19 case

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department (JKNJ) has ordered the Angsana Johor Baru shopping mall here to temporarily suspend its operations.

State Health director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu said that the closure directive, effective for seven days until Dec 14, was made in accordance with Subsection 18 (1) (f) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

“This directive was issued as a result of the evaluation of JKNJ officers on site (yesterday) afternoon.

“It is to enable sanitisation work to be carried out in the building after a Covid-19 infection case was detected at the mall. Apart from that, the closure is also to give space for the employees to undergo screening processes,” he said when contacted.

Dr Aman said that before the directive was issued, he was informed that there were several premises in the mall which had also taken their own initiative to close their operations early.

“Most of these premises have been identified as having close contact with the positive case of Covid-19,” he said.

Meanwhile, a check by Bernama at the mall found that several premises had suspended their operations since 11am yesterday, including food outlets, clothing boutiques, watch shops, electronics and shoe stores.

Some of the premises were also found to be displaying notices of temporary closure.

Claims that there was a positive Covid-19 case at the mall have been circulating on social media, with netizens urging the mall’s management to temporarily stop operations. – Bernama
