Failure to observe physical distancing, wear face masks still top CMCO violations

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained 182 individuals for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) nationwide yesterday.

The failure to observe physical distancing and wearing face mask remained the top two violations, despite repeated calls to follow SOPs following the spike in daily coronavirus cases.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the total 182 individuals detained, only one was remanded. The rest were given RM1,000 compound each.

“Among the offences were failing to observe physical distancing (66), failing to wear face masks (60), failing to provide visitors log record (46) and others (10).

“Yesterday, the compliance operation task force led by the police conducted 49,592 inspections nationwide to monitor the SOP compliance,” he said in a statement.

Ismail Sabri said 2,849 compliance teams involving 12,766 personnel conducted checks at 5,179 supermarkets, 4,667restaurants, 1,285 hawkers, 3,539 banks, 1,249 factories and 620 government offices nationwide.

“Inspections were also carried at 1,064 land terminal hubs, 266 water transportation hubs and 154 airports”, he said.

Ismail Sabri who is the Senior Defence Minister said 31 illegal immigrants were also nabbed, while three land vehicles and a boat were confiscated in the ongoing Ops Benteng mounted to guard Malaysia’s borders yesterday.

“A total of 116 roadblocks were also mounted nationwide on Monday,” he said.

On the mandatory quarantine, Ismail Sabri said between July 24 and Dec 7, a total of 83,737 individuals from various countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Japan, China, United Kingdom and Netherlands have entered Malaysia.

“Of the total, he said 12,097 individuals were placed under quarantine at 76 hotels and 18 facilities nationwide.

“A total of 509 people have been sent to the hospital for treatment while 71,131 individuals had been discharged and allowed to return home”.

On the sanitasation efforts by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, he said a total of 12,389 sanitation operations, comprising 137 zones has been carried out since March 30.

“So far 14,374 premises had been sanitised which includes 2,892 business premises, 6,603 government offices, 1,674 housing areas, 2,848 public places and 357 supermarkets,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said 48 sanitation operations were carried out in 12 states and federal territories including 12 red zones.
