#TECH: Gmail and YouTube services back to normal

KUALA LUMPUR: Both Gmail and YouTube services are back again after experiencing about an hour-long worldwide outage at about 8pm tonight.

Google Workspace and YouTube, in the current tweets announced that their services are back to normal.

“We’re all clear folks! Thanks for staying with us,” said Google Workspace team in its tweet.

TeamYouTube, meanwhile, in its tweet said “We’re back up and running! You should be able to access YouTube again and enjoy videos as normal.”

A check on both services also indicated that both services are up and running again here.

DownDetector, in its comment section, has also cited reports from users that the services are back again.

According to a Google spokeperson, the outage was due to an internal storage quota issue.

“Today, at 3.47AM PT (7.47PM MYT) Google experienced an authentication system outage for approximately 45 minutes due to an internal storage quota issue. Services requiring users to log in experienced high error rates during this period. The authentication system issue was resolved at 4:32AM PT (8.32PM MYT). All services are now restored. We apologise to everyone affected, and we will conduct a thorough follow up review to ensure this problem cannot recur in the future,” said the spokeperson.
