#TECH: Micron aims to hire 50 people with disabilities this year

MICRON Technology Inc, a memory and storage solutions maker, said it aims to employ 50 team members with disabilities in 2021, and has already recruited and trained 36 hearing-impaired operators by end January this year.

This follows the company’s announcement that it has joined The Valuable 500, a global community of over 400 CEOs who are revolutionising disability inclusion through business leadership.

“At Micron, our commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) supports our vision of enriching life for all,” said Micron’s vice president of Assembly and Test, Amarjit Singh Sandhu.

“We have made powerful commitments for 2021 and will continue to grow our culture of inclusion within the communities we live, work and play in,” he said.

The formation of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) within Micron has seen team members embrace diversity and inclusion across its workforce in Malaysia.

Launched in October 2019, Micron’s first ERG for team members with disabilities, Capable, aims to cultivate a work environment that welcomes people of all abilities and provides access to resources, technical assistance and support to ensure they can perform their best work.

“Working with the Malaysian government and Social Security Organisation (Socso) under the PenjanaKerjaya 2.0 hiring incentive programme, we are providing equal job opportunities to individuals with disabilities from all walks of life,” said Malaysia Country Human Resource Business Partner’s director, Moorthy Murugaiah.

In Malaysia, Micron successfully launched a programme to recruit and train 36 new operators with hearing impairment at their Malaysia sites in Muar, Johor as well as Prai, Penang.
