Scientex Bhd’s property division has targeted to deliver 50,000 units of affordable homes by 2028 to benefit more than 300,000 Malaysians.

Its property division chief operating officer Datuk Alex Khaw Giet Thye today said Scientex had already delivered more than 22,000 affordable homes priced below RM500,000 nationwide.

He also said the company had acquired a total land bank of 2,374.857 hectares spread over 25 prime locations in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Out of the total land bank, we have 72.718 hectares of land of prime freehold land in Tasek Gelugor, Penang, offering a total of 2,332 units of affordable double storey terrace houses.

“Apart from that, 85 units of double storey shop offices will also be offered to the market,” he said in his speech for the show house grand opening ceremony in Tasek Gelugor here.

The ceremony was also attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, State Housing, Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo and Seberang Perai City Council mayor Datuk Rozali Mahmud.

Meanwhile in a press conference, Scientex managing director Lim Peng Jin said the company has 25 property development projects nationwide, with the housing project in Tasek Gelugor being their first project in Penang.

“While we do not have any other future plans on further expanding our affordable housing projects in Penang just yet, our project in Tasek Gelugor would certainly not be the last,” he said.

He added that the housing project in Tasek Gelugor would also be Scientex’s first project to utilise the Industrialised Building System (IBS) concept. – Bernama
