Industry players to bring new ideas to spur industry growth, advance nation’s next technology frontier at ENGINEER & MARVEX 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: In line with the government’s aspiration restore the economy, the domestic engineering industry and stakeholders are gearing up to meet again to reconnect, renew ties, establish new network and market.

Via the upcoming Malaysia Engineering Exhibition and Conference 2021 (ENGINEER) and Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration & Ventilation Expo 2021 (MARVEX), industry players are set to bring new ideas to spur industry growth, advance nation’s next technology frontier.

Both events, scheduled to take place from September 8 to 11, 2021, will also provide a platform and an opportunity for businesses, associates and industry stakeholders to leverage on nation building, contributing towards the country’s economic growth as engineering has always been the prime mover of the country’s infrastructure growth.

The Institution Of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) president Ong Ching Loon said the industry has been hit hard by the pandemic over the last one year.

He said as vaccinations have begun to roll out, the country need to look into ways and means to restore the economy and the market.

“With ENGINEER, we will be able to exchange ideas on latest technologies, innovations and solutions, and more importantly, they would also be able to experience how to turn around business or industry in the aftermath of the pandemic.

“We believe ENGINEER will be the platform that will serve this purpose. With a membership of over 50,000 members and connections with many international engineering bodies, IEM will be able to serve as the bridge for this reconnection,” he told The New Straits Times.

He said over the last 12 months or so, it was near impossible to meet and difficult to sell new ideas, which, in turn, hindered economic growth.

As there could still be some restrictions on international travel, ENGINEER will be presented to all in a hybrid mode thereby reaching a bigger market, enabling more exchanges of ideas and technology, as well as sharing of experience.

“This would be the boost that the economy needs currently after being forced to hibernate for more than a year.

The economy needs a stimulant and we trust that ENGINEER will be the catalyst to stimulate the rebound of the economy,” Ong said.

Malaysia Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Association (MACRA) president Peter Tan said industry suppliers, traders and specifiers and also MACRA members participating in MARVEX will build new partnerships and gain insights into advancements and innovations in this field.

“These will certainly facilitate and optimise bigger and better business opportunities for us, in Malaysia and regionally,” he said.

He said as Southeast Asia leads the US$150 billion heating, ventilation and air Conditioning (HVAC) industry at 66 per cent, MARVEX is expected to be the business platform in this region for knowledge exchange and collaborations, to enable industry players and other stakeholders to connect beyond the exhibition, which will be the primary source for air conditioning, mechanical ventilation and refrigeration (ACMVR) stakeholders.

Regional trade and lifestyle exhibition organiser C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd president Datuk Vincent Lim said ENGINEER will drive growth for the engineering professionals and related engineering businesses bringing in trades people and buyers for dealings.

MARVEX is a specialised concurrent event for the ACMVR industries led by the industry pillars.

“This will also be the one-platform to meet, to learn, to attend conferences, symposiums, build networks and rapport.

“Both the exhibitions will be a comprehensive sourcing marketplace for new products, advanced technologies and materials by reputable traders, manufacturers, importers/exporters, contractors and many others.

“Another element of the exhibitions is the hybrid element that will cater for the four-day physical exhibition in the convention centre, and also the virtual platform to facilitate a wider market reach and expand businesses beyond borders within ASEAN and beyond,” he said.

Vincent said it is crucial to reconnect and reboot the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry in the current environment.

“Smarter collaborations will lead to tapping on opportunities, which, in turn, can raise the bar even further.

“Therefore, MICE play a significant role to rebuild connections. We see MICE as being at the forefront of the country’s economy,” he said.
