Firemen rescue 16 trapped at home during flash floods

JOHOR BARU: The Fire and Rescue Department here rescued 16 people, including three senior citizens, who were trapped at their homes in Batu 10, Skudai after the area was hit by flash floods last night.

A department spokesman said the Skudai fire station received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.28pm.

He said a team of 12 personnel headed by operations commander Kamarulzaman Mohd Salleh, was despatched to the scene.

“When the team arrived at the scene, they found the water had risen to about one metre.

“The firemen then relocated the victims to a safer area before they were taken to the homes of their relatives nearby,” he said in a statement.

He said the team also conducted a surveillance on the area.

“No temporary relief centre has been opened so far.”
